What are Soul Portraits?I believe I have been gifted with the ability to paint the unseen and to visually connect people with an inner, perhaps undiscovered aspect of themselves. The imagery that comes through in each painting frequently defies my logic of what to paint, but I am clear that my role is to paint the images that I receive and not to censor what comes. I have found that my clients have a very personal and significant response to their portraits. I've witnessed tears, laughter, and hours of remarkable in-depth interpretation, and I am always deeply moved by their personal stories. I have begun doing the same process with pet portraits. They too have amazing souls and invoke unique imagery. Where do the images come from? The source of these images is a mystery to me and I trust completely that the unique images revealed in my paintings are meant specifically for each client. I do not interview my clients and prefer that they do not tell me too much about themselves. I let the work speak for itself. Why would I want a soul portrait?Because it's a truly unique experience and it's fascinating to see what images may come through in your portrait -- you may even learn something more about yourself. Your portrait will be an invaluable heirloom that can be enjoyed by your family for generations to come. Scroll through the soul portrait gallery and see what clients have named their portraits and read their quotes to see how they were impacted by their experience. A Sample Client ExperienceOne of my favorite stories is about a woman who came to sit for me right after her wedding in Italy. While I painted, I kept seeing a handkerchief on her head and it felt as if she was in a church. The image I saw looked like an old photograph from another time. Not knowing her religious beliefs I was hesitant to paint her with this imagery. When my client came to see the painting, she was stunned. She told me that during her wedding she held in her hand her "Nonie's" handkerchief. (Her grandmother used to buy plain handkerchiefs and do her own lacework around the edges just like the one in the painting.) She went on to tell me that the background I'd painted was Byzantine architecture, which is her favorite, and for her the painting was all about her Italian heritage. View a Movie |
